Kristal Tomshany Biography


Kristal Tomshany is a professional painter, musician, published poet, and an art teacher. Born and raised in the Oklahoma Panhandle, she grew up surrounded by broad fields of wheat and milo, the everpresent smell of the soil, and the boundless, wind swept sky. These are  reflected in her emphasis upon brushwork, where a subtle but dynamic interplay of transparent and opaque pigments that offer glimpses of "something beyond."



Her work has been represented by M.A. Doran Gallery in Tulsa, and has been exhibited at Oklahoma State University, the University of Tulsa, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and Tulsa Community College. Her work has also been exhibited in museums and galleries in Oklahoma City and Wichita, Kansas, as well as the Mayfest Invitational Gallery in Tulsa.

Kristal has taught art at Tulsa Community College for 21 years as an adjunct instructor.

Kristal earned a BFA at Oklahoma State University and later an MFA  from the University of Tulsa. She currently teaches at Tulsa Community College, and has taught in Philbrook summer sessions and in Tulsa area schools through the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa.
